Have all children's sleepwear been treated with chemicals?
No. Tight-fitting pajamas (the long john type) don't need to be treated with fire-retardants. Only loose-fitting pajamas and nightgowns would have been treated. When shopping for tight-fitting pj's, make sure you look for the tag that says the garment should be snug-fitting.
So what if they're treated with chemicals? What's the danger?
Fire-retardants have been known to be harmful to human health for quite some time. They are especially harmful to children, more so than adults. Some of the more common effects include hormonal and metabolic issues, male infertility and even cancer.
So why treat kids' sleepwear with these chemicals in the first place?
Loose-fitting garments can catch fire easily and before they started to be treated with fire-retardants, there were quite a few accidents where a child's garment caught fire. So treating with these chemicals is sort of the 'lesser of two evils'.
The ideal would be to have the garment made of a fabric which is fire-retardant without the need for chemicals.
Does your product have any added chemicals?
No, it has not been treated with any chemicals.
So won't they easily catch fire without being treated with fire-retardants?
No, because the fabric used to create our sleepwear is inherently fire-retardant.
Is the sleepwear made from cotton?
Yes, but not 100% cotton because this would make the nightgown very flammable. It is cotton blended with fire-retardant fabric. This makes the fabric very soft and breathable.
Do I need to take extra care when washing?
No, just wash in cold water (30 degrees celsius) with like colours. No bleach or dry clean. Dry flat whenever possible. You can tumble dry but we don't recommend it if you want to prolong the life of your garment.
How come you only have one product?
We would love to be able to provide you with different styles and prints from the get go, but we are still a fledgling start-up. However, you can bet that we will be stocking our store with lot's of choices as time goes by.
If you have any ideas about styles or prints that you would like to see, please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will try to make your vision come to life.
